Without question, LSU Baseball is a nationally recognized brand.
The Tigers coaching staff continues to show that off with the commitment of 2025 Indiana power-hitting left-handed stick Mason Braun.
The 5-11, 205-pound South Bend, Indiana native can play multiple different positions, including both corner outfield spots, first base and designated hitter.
(self scouting report) “The first thing you notice is that I can hit the baseball. Everyone thinks I’m just a power hitter, but my biggest asset is that I don’t strike out and I put the ball in play. I will potentially run into a few home runs once in a while, but I’m usually a gap-to-gap hitter that doesn’t strike out a lot.
“I play the game extremely hard, I don’t ever take a pitch off. 110-percent every pitch and never take anything for granted. I pride myself in hitting for average and power to go along with a high on-base percentage. Whatever is needed to help my team win baseball games.”
Multiple different SEC schools wanted to land Braun, but he chose the Tigers over offers from Arkansas, Tennessee, Mississippi State, Florida and Oklahoma State from the Big 12.
“100-percent I’m a South Bend kid that wanted to get out of the cold weather,” he joked.
Coming up on his year anniversary of his verbal commitment to the Tigers (Nov. 2023), Braun reflected on why Baton Rouge was the right place for him.
“Very early on in my freshman year I committed to Virginia Tech,” he said. “Looking back on it, I rushed into (that decision). Once the new recruiting rules came out, I decommitted and my phone started blowing up. I talked to (recruiting coordinator) Josh Jordan and I knew what kind of person he was, but in reality LSU was the dream school since I was five years old. My visit was amazing and that sealed the deal, especially Coach Johnson’s development plan for me to become a professional baseball player.
“My stepmom’s sister actually lived in Baton Rouge for almost six years. We visited down there a couple of times. LSU was the dream school because of the success and just seeing the atmosphere of Alex Box Stadium on television. Plus, I got to take part in the LSU-Auburn football game atmosphere last year. LSU provides an atmosphere in everything that no other school can match.”
Being homeschooled, Braun is not playing on a regular high school baseball team, but rather the Knights Academy home school alternative team out of Tennessee.
“We travel around playing JUCO teams or other top high school teams in the state,” he said. “Sort of a local IMG Academy. It’s just a bunch of homeschool kids that needed a place to play.”
